This year’s Blogger Bash on Pier 60 brought many souls back to life.
Who remembers Etch-A-Sketch from your pre-tech childhood. ( @itsetchasketch ) Etch-A-Sketch broke the mold in 1960 with a toy that would withstand the test of time. In 1998 it was won a spot in the National Toy Hall of Fame. In 2003 made the Century of Toys List from the Toy Industry Association recognizing the most memorable and creative toys of the 20th century.
Now with computers and tablets getting into our children’s hands younger and younger I figured it had lost it’s allure. Blogger Bash’s Sweet Suite gave this classic brain game center stage. Walking into the Etch-A-Sketch table was a well needed wake up call for the need for non computerized games.

I also give a lot of credit to Lego for their reinvention from their original interlocking blocks. Lego’s history can be traced back to 1932. Now Lego includes motorized creations, robotics and team competitions. Way to Grow!!!
Speaking about growing, I was afraid my young sons would be growing out of my favorite brands like Little Tykes …. Or even K’nex. But they’re also looking to keep themselves fresh and relevant. I was happy to learn about Kid K’nex for younger children. I love this brand not only because they bring my kid’s imagination alive, not only because for the past 25 years they’ve keep their manufacturing and Americans employed here in Hatfield, Pennsylvania but also because they are a green manufacturing company. Another way they care about out kids futures. Hats off to K’nex.
Hiding among the exciting new lines from classic brands was… YumEarth (formerly Yummy Earth), of which my family already is great fan. I’ve been raising my kids on their certified organic, non GMO, GF, Kosher lollipops for years. (Nothing else! A complete diet of YumEarth Lollipops!) I’m partial to Vitamin C pops but any will do for my kids.
But I have to say the best thing about Blogger Bash 2017 was the people, from the familiar faces of the organizers, like… To the bloggers, friends and aquaintances, like Esti Berkowitz, Nancy Horn “TheMamaMaven” and the new friendships just made like Kristin Hale “It’sFreeAtLast“.
Blogger Bash 2017 reminded us why we’re all here on this YUM earth. It’s really more than 2 crazy days on the docked yacht. It’s a great revival of relationships…friendships, acquaintanceships and brand-ships!
