The New York Women in Film & Television presented its 37th Muse Awards gala luncheon at the Hilton New York in New York City. This year’s honorees included actors Mary-Louise Parker, Debi Mazar and Martha Plimpton, as well as Firelight Media President Marcia Smith, Bloomberg Media COO Jacki Kelley, and Host & Executive Producer of Democracy Now Amy Goodman. The Muse Awards gala luncheon is one of the most sought-after affairs during the height of the holiday season and attended by leading executives from major studios, broadcast and cable networks and film, television and digital media production facilities. The Muse Awards recognizes and celebrates the remarkable achievements of women in the film, television and digital media industries. Actress and CBS Commentator Nancy Giles emceed the event.
Honoree Mary-Louise Parker, an actor and author, has appeared in numerous films and series including the lead role on the television series Weeds, for which she received the Golden Globe Award and Emmy nomination for Best Actress, Angels in America, for which she received a Golden Globe and an Emmy, and received the Tony Award for Best Actress In a Play for her performance in Proof. She is currently starring on Broadway in Simon Stephens’ Heisenberg.
Honoree Debi Mazar, an American actor and television personality, currently stars as Maggie on TV Land’s Younger, and known for her starring role in the Cooking Channel series, Extra Virgin, along with her husband Gabriele Corcos. A native New Yorker, she thanked her manager ‘always believed in me never gave up on me’…and noted ‘dreaming is a form of planning’…uses the subway…and her Mom and kids are her muses.
Honoree Martha Plimpton is an award-winning actor in stage, film, and television, and currently stars in ABC’s The Real O’Neals. When accepting her award, she described herself as ‘the Dean Martin of this event’…noted there are those who are ‘often afraid to speak up’…’my mother told me from a young age to be proud of my voice’…and ‘my nana, a muse of mine’…and ‘extremely grateful to receive this award.’
